Roots and Shoots

Roots and shoots is a pioneering biodiversity charity organisation that equips young people aged 16-19 who struggle to cope in the traditional education system which might be because of disabilities, learning difficulties or behavioural and emotional difficulties. The organisation offers courses in horticulture, retail, and employability and personal development diplomas.

As well as a strong green ethos – they maintain their site as a key green space for urban biodiversity - community inclusion is key to their work and they work mainly with young people who are local to the London boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark. Facilities and projects include the development of diverse habitats in the Wild Garden to increase the biodiversity of insect, plant and bird life and their shop sells Roots and Shoots apple juice, pressed on site and other ethically sourced items.
