The Maypole Project

The Maypole Project aims to relieve and help preserve the mental and physical well-being of children and young people who have complex medical needs and disabilities and to support their family members as well as others who are affected by their suffering and, in certain cases, bereavement.

The service aims to educate, support and preserve the mental and physical well-being of carers and professionals working with such families and help them with issues of loss and bereavement.

They educate the general public about emotional support available and how it can be provided to families.

Age Range:

0-18

Who is the service for?

Families who have a child or young person who has been diagnosed with a complex medical need between 0 and 18yrs, living in the Boroughs of Bromley, Lewisham, Greenwich, Lambeth and Southwark.

Accessibility of this service?

The support provided by Maypole project is tailored to each family’s individual need and the service will support families at home, school, hospice or hospital. They can be contacted for support at any stage of illness from diagnosis, during treatment and into bereavement. Very importantly, there is no time limit to the support they provide.

Do you need to pay for this service?

No. The Maypole Project is a free service but you will be asked to pay for things like outings and activities.

Confidentiality and Impartiality:

The Maypole Project is a member of the BACP and regulated by the Fundraising Regulator. Maintaining open and clear communication with all parents and carers is very important to the work they do.

Training Provided:

Training courses provided in this service are mostly designed to provide an appropriate level of training for associated practitioners working in: school, hospital, hospice, social services. These courses are also accessible by people from all walks of life. We can also create a training course to the specific needs of any organisation.

Drop in Service:

Groups provide a space to meet other families and help alleviate isolation. The Maypole Project groups are facilitated by a trained member of staff.

Activities and Outings

The Maypole Project provides activities and outings for children and young people with complex medical needs, SEN and disabilities.

These activities are designed to bring children and young people together to create peer support, make friends and importantly allow parents/carers to take a well-deserved break.  Our activities and outings are for children and young people with complex medical needs, SEN or disability.
