Unlocking the Potential of Children with Autism

Eagle House School are offering a programme of free parent/carer workshopsoffering expert advice, guidance and support to families and carers of young children with a diagnosis of autism or Asperger syndrome.

The Six interactive workshops give you practical advice and ideas on how to support your child.
The workshops are delivered by Eagle House experts, who have many years’ experience in working with ASD children. The multidisciplinary team of Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Behaviour Specialists share their experience and expertise to provide practical strategies for families to use at home. Our teaching, support and liaison staff also run workshops to support parents/carers with common issues that arise for autistic young people.
Each stand-alone workshop is open to all parents/carers or relatives of a young person with ASD. It is also a great opportunity to meet other parents/carers to share experience and advice.

AUTISM: HOW DO WE COMMUNICATE? – Thursday 27th September 2018

How does autism affect your child’s communication? How can you support communication and communication development? This is a practical session on speech and language therapy techniques you can use at home with your child plus time for questions and group discussion

MAKING SENSE OF SENSORY DIFFICULTIES/LIFE SKILLS – Thursday 29th November 2018

Come and learn to recognise which sensory difficulties your child has and discover how they can affect their lives and their learning.
Our highly interactive and practical workshop not only looks at how to identify your child’s sensory issues, but also gives you some very useful coping strategies that you can start to use as soon as you get home.
This session also addresses how you can support your child develop their key life skills.

WHAT IS BEHAVIOUR TELLING US? – Thursday 31st January 2019

In this workshop, we will be looking at challenging behaviour in young people with autism, how to investigate the root cause of their behaviours, and strategies to address them.

KEEPING CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE WITH AUTISM SAFE – Thursday 28th March 2019

This workshop looks at current advice on personal safety, internet safety and appropriate social interaction and social media.

PARENTING YOUR CHILD WITH AUTISM – Thursday 23rd May 2019

This workshop looks at parenting in relation to coming to terms with a diagnosis, the impact of autism on the family, siblings, and helping the wider family to understand autism.

OCCUPYING YOUR CHILD WITH AUTISM DURING THE SCHOOL HOLIDAYS – Thursday 11th July 2019

This workshop will supply you with lots of ideas for hot summer days and rainy days during the school holiday. It will also support you in looking at structuring your holidays/ days with a change in routine and making them fun!

All workshops are free and aimed at families with children in Primary and Secondary school. They are held on Thursday Mornings 10.00 am- 12.00 pm at Eagle House School, Sutton.

The school address is Eagle House School (Sutton), 95 Brighton Road, Sutton, Surrey, SM2 5SJ.
The school entrance is on Devonshire Road, which is one way from Brighton Road. Turn up Devonshire Road and the school entrance is through gates on the left hand side of the road.  Unfortunately, we cannot provide on-site parking, so it is advisable to use the metered parking available in Cavendish Road nearby.  The school is 10 minutes’ walk from central Sutton and Sutton BR station.
