New health check films for people with learning disabilities

NHS Southwark CCG has launched a film for people with learning disabilities. The film is about why it is important to have a health check every year and what it will be like.
People with learning disabilities have poorer health than the general population. This is because people in this group are more likely to have difficulty saying how they feel and seeing a doctor or nurse when they need to.
Research shows that regular health checks for people with learning disabilities can often uncover treatable health conditions. More serious illnesses, such as cancer, can also be found at an earlier stage when they can be more easily treated.
For this reason, most Southwark GPs provide annual health checks for patients with learning disabilities and want to encourage anyone who has a learning disability or who cares for someone with a learning disability to contact their doctor if they haven't had a health check in the past year.
